Lyrics

  1. Outside the gates of Paradise
    The pearly gates ajar
A lonely beggar in his want to see
    Came from afar
He knelt down on the threshold
    All weary, worn, and sad
    And as repentingly he prayed
His heart would soon be glad
The stars in the Heavens were gleaming
And all was calm and still
The weary day had passed, and gone
And dark the night and still
    Then suddenly upon the air
    When hope had almost gone
    He heard the Angels singing
    Singing the heavenly song

Refrain:
Salvation, salvation swelled forth the glad refrain
To he who salvation seeks shall not seek in vain
Salvation, salvation, lift up thine eyes and see
Salvation from our King on high for all eternity

  1. Outside the gates of Paradise
    He stood in deep despair
Not knowing of the wondrous light
That soon would be his share
He listened to the singing of immortality
The singing of the Saviour’s love
    That set poor sinners free
Again the music of the song
    Fell on his listening ear
    In accents sweet and melody
    From Angel voices clear
Come unto me, and see the streets
    Of gold and silver paved
And then they sang one glad Amen
He knew his soul was saved
