Manhattan Serenade

A popular song from 1942
Words by Harold Adamson
Music by Louis Alter

The sheet music:

Accompaniment by James Pitt-Payne:

Lyrics

I have the memory of a lovely refrain
And in my heart it will forever remain
Our song was like a blue-white gem
My darling, do you remember?

Chorus
That night in Manhattan was the start of it
We lived it and we loved every part of it
The glow of moonlight in the park
The lights that spelled your name
The autumn breeze that fanned the spark
That set our hearts aflame
Our kiss was a sky-ride to the highest star
We made it without touching the handlebars
And I gave you my love to the melody of
The music, the madness that made
Our Manhattan Serenade

TRIVIA:
The music for this song was written by Louis Alter in 1928. It was used as the theme tune for the 1930-1945 radio comedy ‘Easy Aces’ as an instrumental, and similarly for the film “My Man Godfrey” (1936). The lyric by Harold Adamson was not added until 1942.
