Accompaniment:
Lyrics
- Can’t you remember when th’ boys marched off to war
To make the world safe for liberty
How we cheered so long, mingled tear and song
Sang of the Yanks, gave Heav’n thanks
With their faces grim, full of pep and vim
They went forth to dare and do
‘Twas a job, you bet, none will er’e forget
And ’twas done for me and you
Chorus:
If you only, only, knew
Just what your soldier lads went through
In trenches dying, while shells were flying
The foe defying, they stood by you
Tho’ our country’s safe again
Let us succor those brave men
It’s true we can’t pay in gold
For the brave and th’ bold
Of Old Glory that’s th’ story
But, give a bonus to our men
- Yes they went over there, we know they did their share
To make our homes worthwhile l’v’ng in
So they fought and bled, yes, thousands lie dead
They won and now, help them some how
When the time comes due, push that Bonus thru
It’s a duty up to you
Come let’s show our pride in the boys who died
Uncle Sam what will you do
