An English art song, 1922.
words by Marie Seton
music by Montague F. Phillips (Op.35 No.1)
Accompaniment by James Pitt-Payne:
Lyrics
- A butterfly kissed a rosebud
And paused, for a moment to stay
On velvety fragile petals
And then it flew away
It poised on a purple clematis
With a transient tinge of regret
It has left the blushing rosebud
Alone there, to forget - Then it sought a stately lily
Whose kisses were cold with disdain
Ah! the butterfly longed for the rosebud
To kiss her once again
But its fluttering wings were tired
And the warm day soon would close
The sunset, too, was sinking
Whilst slumbering was the rose
