Armful of Trouble

The sheet music:

Accompaniment by James Pitt-Payne:

Lyrics

I do adore that gown you wore
When first we danced upon a ballroom floor
So thin and svelte
It seemed to melt to nothing as your back I felt
And gave me views of spaces grand
That ladies guard as no man’s land
Soft dimples asked me to be bold
And yet, each satin fold said
“You’re no fool, keep cool”

Burthen
There was trouble in the air when I spied you
Though things never looked more gay or “fair and warm”
Still those places where your gown did not hide you
Seemed like signals of storm
And a storm, I know, is not always harmful
I’ve embraced wild winds and curving waves at sea
Still I trembled to embrace this one armful
Full of trouble to me
